Best of Money
I am honored to be hosting the long running Best of Money Carnival. The difficult job, as many of you probably know, is cutting down the entries to the top ten. And then, to make matters worse, ranking those ten.
As any film producer/editor will tell you, it physically hurts to have to “cut” great material, but, alas-that is my job today-I volunteered….
My site is focused on basic personal finance for nurses. I used a “typical reader” to give commentary. I picked the top 15, and let a volunteer nurse go through them, and give me feedback. I then made the final decision.
So let’s get started!
10) What I Wouldn’t Do for Frugality- This list helps clarify your wants and needs when making decisions about making cuts in spending. Nurse Comment: “Not giving up a magazine-whats up with that!”
9) Boats and Cottages The downsides to owning second homes and boats. Having had both, I see the writers points. Although I managed not to go to the poorhouse. The old saying about the two best days in a boat owners life, is certainly true. “The day he buys the boat, and the day he sells it!” Nurse Comment: “This may make someone think, before they make that decision-though probably not those guys with boat fever!”
Ten Ways To Save On A Birthday Party This post is self explanatory. My kids are grown, but now they think they need a vacation to Costa Rica for their birthday-so maybe I will send them this link-backyard bouncing anyone? Nurse comment: “Good list, but I would have started with the amount I had to spend.”
7) How To Make Money Selling E-books A thorough look at the e-book process. Nurse comment: “Looks like a lot of work, how much money can you make?” Great question, indeed!
6) I Got Fired! A great way to help those who have been recently laid off, regain perspective and a positive attitude. Nurse comment: I’ve got friends that need to read this!”
5) Payroll Tax Relief-How Much Would It Save You-Yea, right, like that will ever happen! (Good reminder of the amount the gov’ment takes out of your check before you see it, however.) Nurse Comment: “Yea right, like that will ever happen!” Who says nurses and docs don’t ever agree:)
4) How to Create a Budget – Celebrate Small Victories! Good tips on keeping your head right when you are trying to skimp and save. Nurse comment: “It is hard to stay focused without letting your hair down every now and then-good reminder!”
3) Four Ways a Part Time Job Will Change Your Life Forever What? a part time job post without pizza delivery mentioned (sorry Jeff:) Nurse comment: “I liked the real people who have been there-done that part!”
2) Living in Poverty: What Would It Look Like? A real life attempt to do a budget living on a poverty level income. Very thought provoking. Nurse comment: “So scary! Many of my clients live there, but it would be devastating to have to GO there…” Another reason to keep reading this blog!
And the number one post this week, is from The Digerati Life Blog
1) What To Consider Before You Cancel Your Credit Cards A well written review of why you need to be careful closing accounts down, without at least thinking about it. Unless you are a spending addict-then just close the damn account! Nurse comment: “Well written and covered new info for me-this is something I would actually forward to my friends, or “like” on Facebook!”
We can put a wrap on the #70 edition of Best of Money Carnival. Thanks for allowing me to host!
