The Yakezie Carnival:Spring Training Edition!

The Yakezie Carnival

The first signs of spring are showing up here in the south.  The dogwoods are starting to bloom, my grass is greening up, and the Master’s commercials are all over ESPN and CBS….

In this Spring Training version of the Yakezie (Best Blogs in Personal Finance) Carnival, I wanted to highlight my team, the Atlanta Braves! (sorry Sam and Len!)

I will mix Braves facts and trivia amongst the great writings submitted to this weeks Yakezie Carnival!

I began listening to Braves games on the radio as a kid.  My dad was a fan from when the Braves first moved to Atlanta in 1966.  My earliest recollection of a game in person, Henry Aaron was in the outfield, and Joe Torre was the Braves catcher.

I was able to go to the Braves clubhouse during the last game at the about to be demolished Atlanta/Fulton County stadium-the year before they moved into the current Turner Field.  While I was  in  the   men’s room-Greg Maddox, (known as Mad-Dog)  threw a fastball through the wall, cause he could….

  1. Thanks so much Dr. Dean for including my post about finding the right kind of credit card based on an individual’s spending habits!

  2. Craig says:

Man, I’d love to rag on the Braves but my team, the Mets, are basically broke and don’t have the record the Braves have had the last couple of decades. Sigh…

    Thanks for hosting!

  3. MoneyCone says:

Wonderful comments Dr. Dean! Love the sports angle! Thanks much for the opportunity!

  4. Thank you so much Dr. Dean, for the advice on finding the right kind of Credit Card based on the individual spending habit. I never thought much about that one, now you have me thinking.

  5. Thanks for putting this together! I’m in Arizona next week, so I’m going to try to hit up some spring training games!

  6. krantcents says:

Thanks for including my article. It asks why are you waiting to accomplish your dreams?

  7. Len Penzo says:

Great carnival, Dr. Dean! The Braves have a rich history, to be sure. I actually saw the Braves play my Dodgers at the old Fulton County stadium in Atlanta the year before they moved to their new ballpark.

Next time I’m in Hotlanta maybe we can catch a game together!

    All the best,

    Len

Let me know a little in advance, as I still have night call. Until my blog get’s as big as yours, I still have to work…

Would love to! Might even buy you a beer. Well, maybe not, they REALLY like their beer at Turner Field!

  8. Thanks for including me in the carnival! Looking forward to baseball season again – and hoping that my team, the Minnesota Twins, can finally beat the Yankees in the postseason! Of course the Braves are my second favorite team because of our win over them in the 1991 World Series!

  9. Thanks for hosting the carnival, Dr. Dean!

  10. JT McGee says:

  15. Thanks for letting me sneak in:). At least we have baseball to look forward to since the NFL is having a lockout.

  16. Thanks for including our heretical post. Other Braves fun facts:

In 1973, Dave Johnson, Hank Aaron and Darrell Evans became the first trio of teammates in baseball history to each hit 40 home runs in a season.

In 1979, Phil Niekro became the last National League pitcher to lose 20 games in one season, but it wasn’t so bad because he won 21 that year.

And as I’m sure you know, the Braves are the only team in history to be managed by a Time Magazine Man of the Year.
