Friday Financial Follies
The Friday Financial Follies are designed to summarize the important financial issues of the week.
- Make light of those that are funny.
- Make fun of those that are stupid.
- Highlight those you just need to be aware of if you want to be financially well grounded.
Let’s Get Started:
Miracle Gro is going after the medical marijuana industry. New marketing slogan: “Double your doobie’s size?”
One gold bug is predicting Gold at $5,000/ounce-can the peak price of gold be near?
Apple’s retail guru hops over to JC Penny...”Is that like putting a band-aid on the Titanic’s gigantic puncture wound?”
Screwflation…A new term to describe the status of the middle class, screwed by higher food and energy prices (can you say coffee and gas) and the continued fall in housing values.
Closer to home for me: Less than 33% of physicians will remain in private practice by the end of 2012…What huge malpractice bills started, Obama-care will finish.
Riots broke out again in Greece over their financial issues. I’d complain too, if my planned retirement at age 61 and my 37 days off (yes- 37 days off with 10 years experience) per year were threatened….
300, yes 300 power poles in the California town of Antioch have been knocked down and stripped of their copper this year. Environmentalists in California are serious about cutting back on power use I guess….
Not all the news this week was depressing. Gas prices have dropped around the country. I paid $3.46 for my last fill-up. And I got 20+bucks back on my Pentagon Credit 5% gas card’s first statement. I’ve cycled to work more than 1/2 the time in the last month-which has helped with my gas bill.
Weekend Reading Suggestions:
Great reads worth your time. Tell ‘em I sent ya!

Darwins Money has a short financial quiz-the average American failed, how would you do?

First Gen American has a frugalness gone too far story to share.
Prairie Eco-Thrifter shares her success with Yoga. I usually just perspire and cuss when I’m doing Yoga…
A clothes swap was a success, reports Young and Thrifty. My wife and daughter do this on a smaller scale….
Investor Junkie doesn’t trust economists or weather people. A healthy dose of skepticism is appropriate for anyone making “predictions.”
Happy Fathers Day
Happy Father’s Day weekend to all you fathers. Enjoy yourself. Whether it’s watching the US Open Golf, or playing golf yourself… Or just spending time with the family.

Thanks for the mention, Dr Dean-
Glad to hear that your wife and daughter to this regularly. Do they clothes swap with their peers, or do they clothes swap with each other?
With each other…mostly!
