Gratitude

I have a lot to be grateful for this week:

Great reads!

For a few great reads, please check out the bloggers below:

Kris at Every Day Tips writes a great story about getting out of your rut and finding your passion at the Yakezie site.

The writing contest has begun at Yakezie-go check it out and remember to vote for your favorite!

Crystal at Budgeting in The Fun Stuff describes Freecycle as a way to get rid of stuff. Plus helps decrease landfill from filling…Sounds like a win/win.  I use Goodwill here locally (no Freecycle in our town) plus you can get a tax break for the Goodwill donation.

Sam at Financial Samurai has a beef with his insurer. I hope they come through for him!

Praire Eco-Thrifter has begun a “Link-Love Carnival” with charity as it’s basis.  Love the idea, Miss T.

Krantcents has his KC award column going.  And yes this is shameless promotion of his shameless self-promotion! Great job K. Funny post.

First Gen American writes about Craigslist giveaways and Karma. I love your garden, Sandy.  Have bookmarked the pic for my wife, who loves perennials!

Roger at The Amateur Financier has suggestions for saving money on medications. Good list of tips!

Family Money Values has a thoughtful post of the consequences of receiving large financial gifts from your parents.  I tell my kids if they get any inheritance, I just didn’t time it right!

Robert at the College Investor gives good advice on investing in this volatile market.  A good article by Chris Dietrich on Option Straddles for those who want more info was in the WSJ this week.

Thanks again to my readers who make this journey so enjoyable!

Success Stories: And a Round-up Too!

Success Stories

One of my nurse readers recently asked me a series of very complex questions about starting her own business.   She had all the right questions and should be successful.

Another nurse reader shared the story of standing up to her 403B plan adviser who was trying to sell her  an annuity.  She new it was a bad idea and now has the confidence to push back.  To ask the right questions and say no with confidence.

These readers are the reason I began my journey of teaching personal finance to nurses.  They make the sacrifice  worthwhile. Thanks!

Personal Finance Writers

Another unexpected benefit is all the online friends I have made in the personal finance world.  They are a great group of people doing their best to help others succeed with their money.

Whether it’s sharing their own dumb financial moves or explaining complex investments….If you have a personal finance need or question there is someone writing about it.  And you don’t have to worry about them taking advantage of you.  They are just sharing information.  You can take  it or leave it.

Gaining control of your finances is the first step to stomping the biggest headache of your life-your money problems.

Check out these great sites:

(they will help you- great writers all!)

Len Penzo‘s weekly Black Coffee round-up is always a hoot! And congrats to him for his biggest day ever at his blog on Mother’s Day, His Mom must be so proud.  (I bet she still doesn’t want him to quit his day job!)

Donna Freedman at Surviving and Thriving got a one buck tax refund check. Cool huh!

Crystal, the hardest working blogger in the universe (tied with Kristi at Kikolani) discusses job satisfaction at Budgeting In The Fun Stuff!

Krantcents writes about telling a joke. The post, however, is dead serious and is great advice!  Krantcents wins my blog commenter of the year award, by the way!

Barbara Friedberg emphasizes the positive in getting ahead in this economy.

Kay Lynn at Bucksome Boomer is purging the closets. Man, that pic is scaaarrryyyy!

J.Money at Budgets are Sexy has 5 For Friday on his favorite things. I can’t get Julie Andrews singing “my favorite things” out of my head now….Bad JMoney.

And at Copyblogger, for you fellow bloggers, read 21 Tips to Create Compelling Content.
