  • Highlight and explain new financial and health news-so you don’t miss it!

Friday Financial Follies

This week the news has been all about three things. Obama-care and the Supremes… (Catchy, soon to be on iTunes…) the 1/2 billion buck lottery, and the final four featuring two Kentucky teams. I’m very interested in the health care debate, I know I’m not going to win the lottery (no ticket no win), and I don’t really care who wins the Final Four. I didn’t have a bracket to be busted, but if I had a bracket, busted it would be cause building brackets busts my brain.

But I will go out on a limb. You heard it here: Obama-care will be overturned in June, whoever wins the lottery will be broke within 5 years, and Kentucky wins the NCAA Championship.

No Dogs?

Retirement community for postal workers features, besides no dogs, a thriving post office. These retirees write lots of letters and send packages exclusively through the Post Office. No “Brown” allowed. I wonder if they have a bar like Cheers. (you have to be of a certain age to get that one.)

US Treasury Penny Pinching

Only in the US does the penny cost taxpayers 2 cents and the nickel costs a dime

Purse snatching fools

82 year old grandma rescues her own purse after it was snatched in a Wal Mart parking lot. Note to thieves: Grandmas aren’t always an easy mark.

Gadget King

The household gadget that was universally adopted the fastest (7 years) of any in the last 50 years? Nope not the iPhone, iPad, or iPod. Amazingly, beating out camcorders, digital cameras, pc’s, cell phones: The boombox. Amazing.

Yes, admit you had a boombox.

Medical News

Holy Grail of Heart Attacks

Researchers say a test may be out as early as next year that would be a good predictor of an imminent heart attack.

Philanthropic Donations for Nursing Education

The Robert Wood Foundation is funding a 2 year, 4.3 million dollar initiative to advance state and regional strategies aimed at creating a more highly educated nursing workforce.

Doctorate Degrees in Healthcare

As the healthcare field becomes more complex and sophisticated, physicians are no longer the only doctors in town… No longer just researchers, clinical doctorates are expanding.

Things I’ve Been Reading (and watching) :

Seth Godin writes a personal finance post, and a good one. Making big money decisions.

The House of Lies video is worth watching all the way through, but the restaurant scene early on will do if you don’t have 7 minutes….oh, and the post on HARP 2 was good too, Dom!

Speaking of the lottery, Charles tells us what he’d do if he won at Money Green Life.

James Altucher writes about Superman, as only he can.

Donna at Surviving and Thriving agonizes over loaning money to friends and family.

Yes I am Cheap has an interesting post about tax deductions for prostitutes. Yep, that is not a misspelled word.

John’s got something to say at Money Principle to the younger generation out there. Take a peek and let him know how you feel about how us Baby Boomers ruined it for you.
